Happy New Year!

Github and the downloads page now both carry the latest release of pagekite.py, version 0.3.8.

The focus of this release has been cleaning up the protocol and adding support for TLS encryption (SSL): we want the protocol to be both secure and private, while ensuring that when you connect to a specific front-end, that it actually is who it claims to be.

TLS tunnels are currently disabled by default. On Linux you can enable them by adding --fe_certname=frontends.b5p.us to your command-line or configuration file. Other platforms will probably also need a PEM-formatted certificate-authority file and the --ca_certs argument.

In addition to the tunnels, this release adds many other TLS-related features as well. See the manual for details.

The other major change, also to the tunnel protocol, switches from the old ad-hoc method to a more standards compliant HTTP CONNECT-based handshake. The CONNECT method can also be used to explicitly connect to "raw" back-ends, thus avoiding the uncertainty of the default IP-tracking.

Note that support for the old ad-hoc tunneling methods will be removed in the near future, so upgrading is highly recommended.
