bandwidth quota

2012-07-10, 00:21

hi all - for a subscription, is the quota on a per month basis? or is that within the time frame you get (i.e. quota of 80GB over 8 months = 10GB/month)???

I think it's over the time period, but I wanted to be sure.

Also, if I approach my quota limit, is there a way to buy extra bandwidth?

Thanks!

    Hello!

Your understanding is correct, the "pay what you want" bandwidth quota does not auto-renew (subscriptions are somewhat different). Running out of PWYW bandwidth has the same solution as running out of time: just buy more.

You'll get more of both resources (time and bandwidth), even if you only needed one - but they're both so cheap that we don't see much need to complicate things by providing a discount for buying one without the other.

Also note that unless you are serving video content, 10GB/month is actually a massive amount of traffic, according to our calculations the bandwidth included in a 1 year subscription is enough to stream quality audio for 8 hours a day, every day, for the entire year (to a single recipient). In practice very few of our users ever hit their bandwidth limits, which we consider a good thing - people shouldn't need to worry about such things. :-)

    Hope this clarifies!
